Hassan Namazee, participant on the advisory board at Vanterra Capital explains the philosophy at Venterra: that the top performing private equity funds that are emerging and have demonstrated expertise in a particular targeted sub-sector along with an ability for value-creation are identified proactively with due diligence done to insure the best possible investment.

The best possible investment opportunities are assured due to Vanterra’s integrated model of investing in funds in identified target sectors and regions.

Vanterra establishes long term relationships with the best performing fund partners who share their outlook as the basic building block of their investing strategy. These fund partners are ready to collaborate in a more proactive role as compared to the usual “fund of funds.” Due to these key partnerships Vanterra creates and informational advantage, excellent ‘deal flow’ and a singular diligence nexus.

As a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian American Political Action Committee, or IAPAC, Hassan Nemazee strives to see Iranian Americans become candidates for public office, and hopefully to win those seats, whether on the local level or in state and/or federal government.

Lately the hard work of the IAPAC has paid off.  In Los Angeles, California, David Vahedi won the primary election for the City Council Seat of the 5th District of Los Angeles.

On May 19, 2009 Vahedi will run against Paul Koretz, the former mayor of West Hollywood. If Mr. Vahedi wins the election he will have become the first Iranian American to serve on the City Council in the city of Los Angeles.

The investing strategy at Vanterra Capital relies on targeting emerging markets in a variety of places including, China, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Vanterra believes that due to rapid growth, larger volume of transactions, higher percentage of deals outside of competitive auctions, and lower purchase multiples of these markets that there is a greater opportunity for value-creation.

There are two components to Vanterra’s private equity investing strategy:

1.    Fund Investments deal in the superior of the lower-middle-market private equity funds.  These funds show high potential towards value-creation as well as sector expertise, giving them an advantage over similar equity funds and can also be a resource of market intelligence.

2.    Direct investments invest in lower-middle-market companies (as opposed to funds) with usual transaction values between $20 million and $300 million. These investments can include co-investments along with Fund Investments and investments which originated from the various other Vanterra networks of proprietary funds and its affiliates.
